The forest is quiet. Winter is still here, but the days are warmer. Snow is abundant where you’re walking, but it’s nearly all melted just a few yards ahead of you, with heaps of snow further in the distance. Last week, children were sledding on the hill in the clearing in the far distance, and now the brownish green grass beneath the snow is visible. The air is crisp, but underneath the lingering winter scents there’s a hint of spring, of flowers, of freshness and renewal. The trees are still bare, and cast long, bluish shadows on the remaining snow. Your own shadow joins them, extending your focus into the distance as you breathe in the mix of seasons and accompanying emotions. It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
